FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW FAR IS CASA CARIÑO FROM THE BEACH AND TOWN?

Casa Cariño is in the absolute perfect location, directly above the beach and surf break of Sayulita! It's only a 1 1/2 block walk to the beach and town via a beautifully paved and landscaped walkway. The hill is not a problem for most people, however, if you have elderly folks or young children in your party, you may want to consider renting a golf cart. Many people use them in town, and they can be parked on the streets. They are fun to zip around in and much easier than cars. We can assist you with renting a golf cart for your stay.  Otherwise, you can rent one in town. We can provide recommendations upon request.

HOW DO WE GET TO CASA CARIÑO IN SAYULITA FROM THE PVR AIRPORT?

For airport transportation, the cost is $190USD for round-trip service (price subject to change, based upon availability).  The private shuttle is a large Suburban (or similar) which seats a total of 7 passengers comfortably.  This includes an hour stop at the grocery store en route from the airport where most guests will pick up some basics, staples, snacks, etc. Fresh seafood, meat, and produce are readily available in town.  The driver will have cold beer and water when he picks you up.
Our property manager will arrange the transportation for you if you request it.  You will need to provide your flight information accordingly.

WHAT IS SAFETY LIKE IN SAYULITA?

Sayulita is a friendly and safe town.  This town is family friendly; children, both local and tourists, play on the beaches, town plaza, etc. However, there is petty theft in Sayulita. The property is secure if the doors and windows are locked. Keep in mind though this is a RURAL area of Mexico. PLEASE always lock the house when you are not there and at night. PLEASE do not leave any valuables out in plain site or outside, making yourselves and the home a target for petty theft. Put your laptops, cell phones, cameras, jewelry, cash and travel documents in a safe place and out of view. There are also safes in each bedroom. There is a private security guard in our neighborhood cul-de-sac during the night hours.

HOW IS SURFING IN SAYULITA?

Sayulita’s central beach is located just below Casa Cariño.  It is a great place for beginning surfers (board, SUP, and body surfing). If you wander further down the beach about 100 yards, the waves are bigger. There are waves year-round. The waves tend to be the smaller in the summer. There can occasionally be big swells in the winter.

ARE WATER, ELECTRICITY AND WI-FI RELIABLE?

PLEASE REMEMBER (Yes, a Disclaimer!), that in rural Mexico, the electricity occasionally goes out....the internet can be sporadic....the town's water can go dry (our home has its own water cistern) and gas tank....the town music can be loud (triple paned windows provide some soundproofing). The local residents of Sayulita, and businesses are prioritized for water (during non-rainy season) and electricity (during outages).

Sometimes we have to go with the Mexican flow and be patient. Please know that we will do everything we can to keep your services running smoothly, but sometimes there are things are out of our control. That's when you head to the beach...and just grab a margarita or cold beer and RELAX! If the small possibility of these things happening is upsetting or unnerving, then we are probably not the home or town for you.

HOW DO WE BOOK TOURS, ACTIVITIES, MASSAGES, COOKS, ETC.?

Our property manager can arrange all types of tours and activities for you. He can also give you suggestions for a masseuse, in town or at the property, and make arrangements for you to have traditional Mexican meals at the property.  We send a Welcome Email about a month prior to your stay with additional info and our property manager contact details. If you have any specific requests prior to that, please contact us and we can assist.

IF WE WANTED A CHEF TO PREPARE SOME MEALS, WHAT IS AVAILABLE? WHAT IS THE COST?

There are a couple different chef options available.  We have one for traditional Mexican meals and another one if you want more exotic dishes.  Depending on which one you select, the pricing and menu options are different.  You can't go wrong either way.  Most folks eat in town (there are so many good options within walking/golf cart distance) and then have a few meals with the chef in the home.

The cost is approx. $340 pesos per person for breakfast.

The cost is approx. $400-$600 pesos per person for dinner (depending on the meal selected - seafood is more expensive).

The chef will buy all the supplies, prepares, serves, and cleans up.

Please note these prices may vary depending on menu options selected, and chef availability.

CAN WE RENT A GOLF CART FOR OUR STAY?  WHAT IS THE COST?

The cost for a 6-passenger golf cart is $1310 pesos a day
Our property manager will arrange the cart to be delivered to the house for your stay as long as you request it ahead of time.
Please note these prices are subject to change based upon availability.

WHAT'S THE BEST WAY TO EXCHANGE MONEY? ARE THERE ATMS AVAILABLE?

We strongly recommend that you not bring to Sayulita more than $200USD cash for the taxi service and $200USD cash per person traveling, and that you make daily use of either the ATM inside Don Pedro's in town, or Intercam Bank, which is in the outskirts of town (about a 6-block walk from the bridge), to get pesos as needed while you are there. It is not recommended to use other ATMs in town as there have been problems with fraud at some of these. Also, a lot of places in town do take credit cards.
